Packaging / Design

Quite a clever case design but not as high quality as one would hope. Don't get me wrong, it's well worth the price on the price tag but don't expect to be blown away as this is pretty simple lightweight plastic stuff.

The discs are presented on round cardboard pieces with pockets (kinda scratch-happy but I guess it works okay if you're careful), which get's the job done. Plain and simple.

The bowling ball is made from plastic and comes with a flat base (!) (meaning that it's not totally round, which is kind of a downer). This is opened by twisting the two parts in opposite directions, which releases a simple hook-type locking mechanism (no loose pieces, just cut-outs to make the two pieces interlock when twisted).

The base of the ball is numbered on a small sticker, and is then packaged in a clear plastic mold within a plastic box together with the cardboard display piece.

All in all I think this is pretty decent but I wouldn't pay much more than what they're selling for now (around 30 dollars). Also, it certainly gets a plus for the plastic mold as this will certainly minimize any kind of transit damage.

Disc contents / Extras

I never thought I'd say this about a Big Lebowski special edition but this thing is actually worthy of being called just that - a special edition dvd set!

This has been released several times but there was never anything coming even close to a decent SE so I'm sure glad this thing finally got out.

There's a bunch of brand new features and they're all quite interesting and fun to watch. There's a wonderful warmth to all the cast and crew stuff and it really makes you love the movie even more (this might just be the the complete lack of special features in the past talking but who cares).

As a finaly note I must say that I still wish for some kind of commentary track from the Coens but this is nowhere to be found. In the end, I'm guessing any fan of the film will definitely want to pick this up and I certainly urge you to do so.

Granted, it's not a definitive release by any means (the extras are nice but there's still a few pieces missing). This is however the best release for the film so far, and the only thing missing in comparison to other editions would be the DTS track, which is available on the Swedish region 2 release (the one labeled "new edition") - but that one misses out on all the new bonus features of this set so a true fan will probably consider both.

(Sorry for the long sentence but it really tied the review together)

My copy is # 09470/50000.

It seems that some copies where presented without a sticker under the bowling ball even though the box clearly states that it's a numbered release. I havn't been able to find any official word on how many sets where affected by this error though.

Picked this up too, but was surprised there was no sticker on the bottom of the ball. Heard this happened to others as well.

I didn't notice the sticker when I unpacked mine! Gotta run and see my number :)
