Packaging / Design

An unusual case to say the least. Packaged within a standard keepcase together with a stiff completely holographic plastic slipcase this release comes off as quite the eyecatcher in comparison to other regions.

The 80-page book is quite a nice touch and well designed but it's only in french so probably not too interesting for the english crowd.

The slipcase it self has three different images for the front and back that blend together very well. I think the case is quite cool but the plastic slipcase has those typical hologram reffles, which can get quite scratched and dirty over time.

Last but not least it can be mentioned that the slipcase has identical flaps for both the top and bottom so you can open it both ends if you so please.

Disc contents / Extras

As expected from a David Lynch dvd, the extras are pretty slim but this edition does give the classic film a few more feathers then the old bare-bones disc did. Still, there's no lengthy documentary and not much newly recorded stuff, except for the Lynch 2005 interview.

To sum it all up, it feels like most of the extras we're compiled from stuff that can be found in the separately available Pretty As a Picture - The Art Of David Lynch documentary, and if you've seen that, there's really not a lot to get excited about among these extras.

Last but not least I can mention that the "Who?" segment on disc 1 is nothing but quick videoclips showing all the characters as they appear in the film (just to explain who's who). Each clip (each character) is nothing more than a second long.

The first disc also has a section called "Hwy" which lists a number of words that for the most part don't make to much sense. However, this list of words is actually a chapter selection even though there's no graphics attached to it (still, what else do you expect from David Lynch?).

Sidenotes

The disc contents are exactly the same as on the UK 2 disc version (except for minor audio and subtitles variations).

The keepcase in this set is also available separately.

Yeah, it's a shame that they took so long to release the film in the states. And even when they did it's still a pretty slim edition.

Lost Highway got released in the USA on DVD finally in early 2008. However this is the edition I imported and got first (before the R1 was released) and it's still super cool.
