Packaging / Design

This is one out of three large limited edition hartboxes released for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in Austria (please see links to other versions in the sidenotes at the bottom of the page). This version is commonly described as "cover C" and just like the other two variations it comes numbered and is limited to 666 copies. This is definetely my favorite among the three LE hartboxes as it's the only one (both among the hartboxes and among most other releases I've seen) that goes back to the original theatrical poster artwork, heavily overshadowed by one of the greatest taglines in movie history;

"Who will survive and what will be left of them?"

It actually feels quite strange that this classic image hasn't been featured in such a clean design anywhere else and just for that I'd say it's a case worth hunting for. As far as I know "Cover C" is the most sought after among all three hartboxes and I can easily understand why. As a true TCM fan and packaging whore I obviously set my heart on getting all three but this will easily be the one I will hold the dearest when it comes to design.

Disc contents / Extras

This release features exactly the same discs as the standard 2 disc collector's edition by XT Video. It comes with pretty much the same features as we see everywhere else. There's nothing to exclusive to elevate this above the rest but it does include the lengty Family Portrait documentary, which is obviously a big plus.

Other than that, the audio isn't the best and image quality has improved a lot since this edition came out. So if you're looking for superior image and audio I would suggest checking out some of the later releases as there's a whole bunch of editions out there and several of them that should rank a lot higher than this one.

Sidenotes

The cover states the aspect ratio as 1:85:1 but from what I can tell it's more like 1.78:1 (feel free to confirm the exact ratio cause the whole thing looks a bit odd if you ask me).

The discs in this set are featured in 4 different editions. There is the original collector's edition from XT Video, presented in a small hartbox, and then there are 3 limited edition large hartboxes with alternate cover art (each of these 3 cover variations are numbered and limited to 666 copies). Please see more info on these editions below.

Chris: No man, 15 GBP sounds like a great deal if it's in good condition. Nice pickup for sure! :)
